New Life Outreach Church is a caring body of believers dedicated to sharing the light, life, and love of Christ. Our desire is to help individuals find new life in Christ and begin their spiritual journey. We also seek to nurture all believers in their walk with the Lord. Our passion is to help each person grow and mature in the purpose for which the Father created them. Whether you are new to the area, seeking a fresh start, or looking for a church to call home, we welcome you with open hearts and arms.
Join us each Sunday at 10 am.
We begin with prayer and study in the Word of God. The Word is ministered first to prepare our hearts for the Lord's presence as we worship. Following the sounding of the Shofar, there is a dynamic time of true worship from the heart. This precious time is not a concert for an audience but an offering of love to our glorious Lord. Holy Spirit is indeed welcomed and gifts of the Spirit are given as the Spirit wills. Our worship is Spirit filled and Spirit led. Our Worship Pastor, Michael Kelley, is anointed in his selection of all types of music from the contemporary to the great old hymns. Come and experience the freshness of the Lord's Presence.
New Life Outreach Church located in the heart of Cottondale, Alabama, has been a beacon of faith for over 40 years. We believe that we are a "city set on a hill that cannot be hid" (Matthew 5:14 KJV). Our desire is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and empower believers to grow in their faith. It is our passion for each child of God to mature and stand complete in the blessings of God's plan for their lives. That each one would develop a foundation of God's Word in their lives that would not only energize and encourage them on Sunday; but, provide the impetus to reach out to others on their jobs and in the market places of their lives. Our mission is best seen in words of Ephesians 4:11-13 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; KJV
Pastor Sammy Hughes leads New Life Outreach Church with a heart full of faith and compassion. Sammy grew up in a small, close-knit community in Holt, Alabama, called "Possum Holler", yes, Holler. He graduated from Holt High School in 1964. He went on to earn a B.S. in Education (1968) and an M.A.(1972) in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Alabama. After spending thirteen years as a Biology and Anatomy & Physiology teacher at TCHS, Sammy felt the call to become a pastor. He founded New Life Outreach which began in his home. As a part of the church ministry he established and led a Christian school, New Life Academy for twelve years. When New Life Academy closed, Sammy later served as a Guidance Counselor and Dean of Students at American Christian Academy where he retired in 2015.
Though he did not attend a theological seminary, Sammy was ordained originally by New Covenant Church of Tuscaloosa. He was later ordained by the New Life Outreach congregation to serve them as their pastor. Sammy often says his pastoral education came through "Knee-ology" [prayer].
In 1971, he married his wonderful wife, Sue, and they have been blessed with two children. Their son, MAJ Stephen Mark Hughes who along with his wife Chandra reside in Texas.. He serves in the United States Air Force. Sammy and Sue were also blessed for 26 years to have their daughter, Elisabeth who went to be with the Lord in 2002. Sammy and Sue are grateful to have served the Lord for 44 years and to be part of the New Life Outreach family. At the age of 78 he says he has never been more excited with the Word of God and what the Lord is doing in these times. He is claiming the "Caleb Anointing" who warred to take his mountain at 80. When people ask when he plans to retire, his standard answer is, "I will leave the ministry by way of the undertaker or the 'Upper Taker' and that is the one I am expecting!"
